If you\’re ready to get a Labrador, don\’t go to the puppy store at the mall, or to a Labrador Retriever breeder. Instead, contact a Labrador rescue organization to see what kinds of homeless Labradors are up for adoption. By rescuing a Labrador, you get a purebred dog without paying a purebred price, and a lucky Lab gets a new home with a loving owner.

Take a list of questions for a Labrador Retriever breeder written ahead of time when you visit them. This list will also be handy if you are going to be meeting a lot of Labrador retriever breeders at a dog show. If you meet a breeder online, you are still going to want to ask a lot of questions. You will be overwhelmed by all of the cute furry faces in order to trust your memory to recall the questions you need to ask.

Of the hundreds of breeds of dog available today, one breed with an incredible history behind it is the Labrador Retriever. Labrador Retrievers are actually one of the first dogs to be recognized in history, and this was in England in the year 1903. A little over a decade later, in 1917, the breed was registered in the American Kennel Club.

It is a sad fact, but animal shelters are becoming more and more common with each passing day. Animal abuse has reached unprecedented levels, and the abused dogs invariably end up in rescue centres, fearful and distrustful of human beings. Abused dogs are hard to place in new homes. Finding owners willing and able to supply the love and patience necessary is difficult.

Sometimes people can be cruel and anyone that would abuse or abandon an obedient Labrador dog can be considered a cold and cruel person. As a humane person you will want to do the right thing and get in touch with a Labrador rescue group to help any abused or abandoned Labrador or any other dog. It is your business when no one else will help a defenseless animal and there are many resources you can use to try and help locate the rescue group closest to you quickly and easily

Just like any other properly raised Labrador pup - with a lot of patience, persistence and a large dose of good humor. The Labrador retriever is essentially a creature that does not suffer from any specific behavioral problems, though as with all breeds there are always certain animals that will show some abnormalities including those related to their health and also behavior. Sometimes, these rather large animals will have problems related to their size including being too aggressive and often diagnosing the exact nature of such Labrador problems can be both confusing as well as difficult. Another common Labrador problem is that of chasing cats and smaller dogs, and this is an instinctive problem that should be addressed through providing adequate Labrador training to your pet at an early stage in his life.

Labrador training starts early, at twelve weeks your dog should already be learning simple things like how to associate with people, other dogs and getting into a car. Labradors are loving dogs and don\’t do well with harsh training. The best way to go about Labrador training is to use lots of praise and positive reinforcement. Anyone interested in getting a Labrador Retriever puppy should be aware that they are going to have to go through the process of finding legitimate, reputable Labrador Retriever breeders, at least if they want to find a healthy, happy puppy and one that is going to be perfectly suited to their lifestyle. When you deal with pet shops and backyard breeders, you are dealing with casual breeders who are not as educated and informed on the breed as they should be.
