It is incredible how misleading many of the letters are and indeed so is the degree to which the salespeople twist the truth. Every fortune 500 company has an iron clad budget in place, in fact, most all successful businesses world wide have a tangible budget. It seems obvious that earning money and organizing a budget goes hand-in-hand, but a report on personal income by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2006 stated that American households had a negative saving rate of about -1.0%. This means that most Americans spend more than they make. By that notion, it seems obvious that the average American has not correctly implemented a budget into their personal finances.

Gas prices are a hot topic right now, and have been for some time. With increased demand, especially from developing third world countries like China and India, continued unrest in the Middle East, and lack of investment in new refineries, the problem continues to grow worse and shows no signs of slowing down. And while we may certainly feel we have it bad, some countries actually pay more at the pump than we do, including the U.K, Germany, Denmark and The Netherlands, largely because of heavy government taxes on gasoline to discourage their consumption, a technique that is also employed with cigarette and alcohol taxes in some regions.

While it\’s not the sole factor in determining your level of wealth, your amount of disposable income is probably a fairly strong indicator. At the very least it indicates your financial planning ability, as a person living above their means will have a lower percentage of their income available as disposable income. Banks offer us many convenient services, but they hardly do so out of the kindness of their hearts. Almost any little service imaginable that a bank provides has at least a small fee associated with it. These fees individually are usually small, but together can add up to a great deal.
