If you have a restaurant or you are considering opening one up, there are several issues to take care of. One of them will be the decision to serve alcohol or not. This is a touchy subject though and one that requires a great deal of consideration. First, you need to find out if you can even serve alcohol in that location. This can be determined by your city ordinances.
Serving alcohol at a restaurant can be profitable and that is why so many people choose to do so. You also get your hands on those guests who love to eat out but want an alcoholic drink to go with it. They will frequent other establishments if you don’t offer them that choice regardless of how good your food is. Other people are turned off by any restaurant though that does serve alcohol so they won’t come in.
As you can see, it isn’t going to be possible to keep everyone happy with such a decision. Therefore you will need to take a close look at what works best for your type of restaurant. You will have to follow the law though to make sure you can get a liquor license. If you don’t follow the guidelines for it you may find it being denied. It can also be revoked later on if you aren’t following the rules.
Keep in mind that there will be quite a bit of an investment with serving alcohol at the restaurant. You will need to have the supplies on hand as well as the space for a bar to be put in. There are glasses, the liquor, and of course working with the supplier. That is quite a bit to take on so be prepared.
Yet if you get a good crowd that does want the alcohol, you can sell it for quite a profit. That is good news as that is what you want to be able to do with your restaurant overall. Alcohol can be purchased for a low price and then marked up as much as 100% and people will still pay for it.
There are laws about how old a person must be to serve alcoholic beverages. In most locations it is 18 but in others it is 21. You can still have staff under that age working for you, but they can’t serve the alcohol. Therefore you will need to have a plan of action in place to take care of this. For example another person who is old enough to deliver it for them.
You also need to make sure all of your guests who order alcohol are old enough to drink. Your staff needs to realize that serving under age individuals can result in serious problems for your business. Therefore each person should be asked for a photo ID regardless of how old they appear to be.
You don’t need drunk people hanging out in your restaurant. Make sure you are able to cut them off when there is still time to get them safely out of there without incident. No one consuming alcohol needs to leave and drive their car. Keep an eye out for everyone’s safety when you serve alcohol.
