You might hope 2009 slows down for you, but the truth is, in our fast-paced society everything is urgent. What should you do about Aunt Em, who has moved into residential care this year and expects you to visit weekly? You enjoying listening to her memories of years gone by, but truth be told, all the while you are there you are thinking about your to-do list. Between transporting children to appointments, shopping for groceries, and trying to hold down a work-at-home job, you are pulled in many directions. So… you have set the goal and started the process of achieving what you want. You work towards the goal, think about the goal and are really excited. Then something happens. You loose steam, you get busy and the excitement that you had while you were working towards your goal fades and another project gets stuck back up on the shelf. Waiting for completion and just outside of your grasp.

Its hard to admit, but the biggest obstacle we have with change is ourselves. We set up roadblocks and resistance to letting go of things that no longer serve us or cling tightly to past behaviors and mindsets because we are scared to let go. Embracing change requires something more than going through the motions.

We are able to create pictures on the screen of our mind of anything we want to have, do or become. Do you remember when you were a child how rich and vivid your imagination was? Do you remember the level of enjoyment you had imagining the places you would go, the things you would have and who you would become? Why is it that as we age our ability to use our imagination to continue to get what we want diminishes? Is it a lack of imagination or simply a lack of effective use of our imagination?

When I took up brain training I never expected to find such a strong connection, or any connection, between brain exercise and my happiness level. On days when I\’m in a good mood, I do better at the brain exercise; and on days when I do the brain exercise, it makes me feel happier and more relaxed. My fellow brain trainers report the same thing.
