In naval slang the terms standing end and bitter end evoke the different parts of sailing knots, with the former suggesting the strain and the latter referring to the loose end one holds. Thus, most explanations you find about how to tie sailing knots use these expressions abundantly. Hence, in case you are a beginner, it is good to first get familiar with the basic naval vocabulary before moving to more advanced learning levels.

Repositioning cruises aren\’t a new phenomenon, they are the best kept secret in the cruising industry. Just like migrating birds, many cruise ships move to warmer climates in the Autumn and then return in the Spring. Some head south for the winter months and then they sail back for the summer months. Modern cruise ships have dramatically reduced the problem of seasickness. Today\’s larger ships cut through waves instead of riding on the top of them. Also, the new technologies such as counterbalancing systems and stabilizers have greatly reduced the pitch and roll of the ships, all but neutralizing the problem of seasickness.
