Decorating a bathroom that is used by a child presents its own unique challenges. Because young children use the bathroom so often (many times accompanied by a parent), these bathrooms are often the most used rooms in a house. Unfortunately, most parents have no idea how to decorate kids’ bathrooms. Children can be vocal about things they dislike, so parents of young kids sometimes find that their design choices are less-than-welcome. This article offer some tips and ideas that parents can use to decorate a kid’s bathroom.

Boy or Girl? It Can Make a Difference When You Decorate

If your child is a boy, you can decorate the bathroom so that specific interests are appealed to, such as cars, bugs, cowboys, and so on. If a young girl uses the bathroom, perhaps a princess or doll theme would be appropriate. Of course, your own child’s tastes will be the most important consideration, so if your little girl likes to play with blocks and trucks, so be it. Of course, most of this consideration goes out the window when children of both genders are going to be using the bathroom. If that’s true, then the bathroom itself should be kept in a neutral theme but still appeal to the kid’s interests. Whatever the theme, you can accessorize in a variety of different ways.

Accessories and Decorations to Use

There are many different ways to accessorize your kid’s bathroom. For example, if your child likes to play with cars, a curtain and bathmat set that has a car pattern on it is ideal. Or, if your children are fans of Disney in your house, they can have pictures of Mickey or Minnie, for example, in their bathrooms.

Even toothbrush tumblers are available in many different styles. How about a princess shaped one if your child is a girl, or a dinosaur shaped tumbler for a boy? Soap dispensers come in many styles too and can also be used to enliven children’s bathrooms with their favorite characters, animals and more.

Doorknobs, wastebaskets, soap dishes and tissue dispensers can be found which will cater to the interests of any child. For instance, you can replace the knobs on any cabinets or drawers in your child’s bathroom to ones which will appeal to them. Clowns, animals, cars - really anything which interests your child can be readily adopted as a bathroom dcor.

As Your Child Changes, so Does the Bathroom

It’s no secret that your child’s tastes will change as they get older. Your child’s dcor and accessories will likely change right along with their interests. From soap dispensers to bathmats, shower curtains to doorknobs; even the tumblers can be changed to grow right along with your child.

You should avoid the use of decorations which will be hard to switch out as your child ages. A wallpaper pattern of giraffes may be very appealing to a four year old - but less so when they are twelve. This will leave you with wallpaper you’ll have to replace when your child outgrows their obsession with giraffes.

However you choose to decorate your kid’s bathroom is limited just by your imagination and your budget. There are many accessories available to decorate with so that you can change themes easily even on a budget, and are really only limited by your imagination. If you know your child and what he or she likes, you’ll be able to decorate the bathroom appropriately in the first place and then can change the theme as he or she gets older. With just a little planning and imagination, as well as a small budget, you can create and keep the perfect bathroom for your child.
