To be prepared for college life, there are some things that you need to be sure to bring with you. In addition to your daily clothing and hygienic needs, there are critical items to remember. Here is a partial list of things students frequently forget to shop for before going off to college. A lock box is a good idea. It can help protect your valuable items and your privacy. Of course, a determined thief can walk off with it, which is why you should not bring valuable items to college if you do not absolutely need them. You have to bring an alarm clock or your mother. But, mom probably has other obligations, and you will not have as much fun if she is around. Trust me on that. You will need a study lamp. Be sure to get a good one. Do not forget laundry essentials. Minimally, you will require a laundry bag and a hamper or basket. And, you’ll save money if you buy soap, fabric softener, etc. in a supermarket or dollar store instead of a laundromat. A lot of college students (mostly guys) cram clothes into drawers and onto shelves, but hangers save space and keep your clothes neater. Colleges do not supply them, so you will need to bring your own. You might also want to get yourself an iron or a steamer. A sewing kit can save your favorite item of clothing if you drop a hem or lose a button. Special tip for guys: women love men who can sew (or cook, for that matter). Don’t forget a flashlights and a first aid kit. Better safe than sorry. Everybody remembers towels, but lots of folks forget robes. A robe will give you warmth and “coverage”. Shop for plastic storage storage bags and boxes for food and other items you might want to organize and protect. If you plan to do some cooking in your dorm, include plastic cups, plates, and utensils on your list. They are convenient, easy to clean and store, and nearly unbreakable. Bring at least one set of dressy clothes, even if you do not envision the need to wear them. Chances are good that you will need to dress up at least once or twice a year. It is not an essential, but you might want to bring a camera. It will let you capture the many memorable events of your college days. Check out your dorm room to see how large it is and what is included. Then, make as comprehensive a list as possible of what you need, starting with the articles above. It will make your life much easier as you get ready to rush off to college.
